GON' HEAD AND PUT YOUR RECORDS ON!

Michael J Love's GON' HEAD AND PUT YOUR RECORDS ON!, the first entry in his interdisciplinary tap dance percusinarrative series, The AURALVISUAL MIXTAPE Collection, is an exploration and jubilant celebration of Blackness. With RECORDS!, Love curates a vibrant amalgamation of moments from pop culture and his personal history to examine the various portions of his identity while actualizing self-love and self-care. RECORDS! is anchored by tap improvography and spans a number of performance mediums as it demands the necessary auralvisual space for #blackboyjoy.

RECORDS! is comprised of a collection of brand new, vibrant rhythm tap dance pieces; a fully produced version of “SELF”—which Love originally premiered as a work-in-progress in July 2016; and an original script Love wrote and developed by way of ARCOS Dance Artist Development Award-fueled collaborations with playwright, screenwriter, and director Paloma Valenzuela and interdisciplinary artist Rebecca Whitehurst. The RECORDS! cast includes Austin actors Delanté Keys and Rama Tchuente.

FIVE 4 FIVE

FIVE 4 FIVE is the debut of Austin Rhythm Tap Society, a new ensemble co-founded by Michael J Love and Sydney Gallagher. ARTS is dedicated to the continued study, exploration, and advancement of American rhythm tap dance in Austin and Central Texas.

Renowned tap artists Brenna Kuhn, Adriana Ray, and Matthew Shields, as well as ARTS Artistic Director Michael J Love, have set a series of five tap compositions (including four original pieces and a unique staging of a classic tap work) on founding ensemble members—Carla Chapa, Tracie Knodel, Susan Knight Leos, and Eliza Parker as well as ARTS Dance Captain Sydney Gallagher who will join the ensemble on stage. In addition to the presentation of the ARTS repertoire, FIVE 4 FIVE will also include special guest performances by choreographers Brenna Kuhn and Matthew Shields as well as other beloved friends and tap family members.
